Not Quite KFC and Chips

This is my first attempt at a diet KFC meal. I will admit, this still needs some work, but it's still pretty tasty and roughly the equivalent of a streetwise two with an extra piece of chicken. Granted, KFC has a batter; this makes use of a crumbed mix, not quite the same, certainly not the Colonel’s 11 herbs and spices, but it beats whatever your girlfriend is eating!

Ingredients:
2 x Chicken Leg
1 x Chicken Thigh
30g x Southern Fried Chicken crumb mix
1 x Egg
90g Frozen McCain Oven Bake Chips
Coke Zero (optional)

Preparation:
Remove the skin and excess fat from the chicken pieces. Yes, I know... it sucks, but we have to in order to make this work. Beat the egg into a nice egg wash. Dip each chicken piece into the egg wash and roll in the crumb mix. Preheat the oven to 180C. Place the chicken on a baking tray and bake for 15 min before turning over and backing on the other side for another 15 min. Weigh out the chips and also bake alongside the chicken. Dish up and serve with some Coke Zero (to give it that KFC feeling)

Calories:
Chicken Legs: 156 Cal
Chicken Thigh: 107 Cal
Egg: 20 Cal
Chips: 102 Cal
Crumbs: 45 Cal

Total: 430 Cal

Blueberry Waffle & Ice Cream

This is one of the greatest snacks on this diet! Who doesn’t like Waffles? Even more so, who doesn’t like waffles with Ice Cream?

The key ingredient to this is the sugar free ice cream, it tastes pretty much the same as regular ice cream, especially the one from Hubertos. I always get Hubertos sugar free ice cream, I’ve tried the Chocolate and Strawberry flavours and look forward to trying the Toffee one this weekend. Hubertos, I have to give you guys a shout out – well done!

Ingredients:
1 x 75g Pick n Pay frozen blueberry waffle
2 x 50g scoop of Hubertos Suger Free Ice Cream

Preparation:
Defrost and grill the waffle (you can microwave it too, it really doesn’t matter, it’s all up to you). Add the 2 scoops of Ice Cream on top. Enjoy while eating it in front of your girlfriend and asking her how her salad is. Feel free to use any of the following taunts:

"OMG, I can really taste the blueberries in this"

"Wow, this toffee Ice Cream is amazing"

"OMG Francine, this waffle... OMG"

"What you got there? That cucumber sure looks good, you know, in a bland and tasteless way"

"It rocks to be a dude - look what I got!"

"You mean you DON'T get to eat Ice Cream and Waffles? I can have it every day."

Apple Pie Oats

If you’re tired of having eggs every day, this will be a nice change, it’s like having desert for breakfast!

Ingredients:
1.5 x Cup Cooked Oats
0.5 x Cup Skimmed Milk
1.5 x Cup Apple sliced into little blocks
Cinnamon to taste (I like a lot)
Artificial Sweetener to taste

Preparation:
Cook the oats as instructed on the box. Cut apples into small blocks and fill 1.5 cups full. Cover the Apples in Cinnamon and microwave for 3 minutes on high. This will soften them up, slightly caramelize them and bind some cinnamon flavour into them. Toss it all together in your breakfast bowl and add some artificial sweetener to taste. Add your half cup of milk and enjoy!

Calorie Count:
Oats: 225 Cal
Milk: 61 Cal
Apples: 97

Total: 383

Chicken Wrap

Granted, this isn’t a KFC twister, but it’s easy to make and doesn’t taste half bad!

Ingredients:
1 x Tortilla wrap
1 x Chicken Breast cut into strips
0.5 x Cup shredded lettuce
4 x Tomato Slices
2 x tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
1 x squirt Lemon Juice

Preparation:
Fry the chicken strips in a pan, sprayed with Spray and Cook. Squirt some lemon juice and chicken spice on the chicken strips. After the strips have slightly browned, remove from pan and toss on to the tortilla.
Arrange the strips on the tortilla starting from the top to around ¾ way down to form a chicken strip. Cover the strip with the 4 tomato slices and season tomatoes. Add the sweet chilli sauce on top of the tomatoes. Add the lettuce and wrap it all up.

Calorie Breakdown:
Tortilla Wrap: 210 Cal
Chicken Breast: 152 Cal
Lettuce: 8 Cal
Tomato Slices: 16 Cal
Sweet Chilli Sauce: 45 Cal

The Dude Diet Begins

We've all been there - the wife / girlfriend goes on diet and insists you join her. Is this fair? No, no it isn't. Were men made to eat salad? If we were, then why are animals so delicious? The entire proposition of eating nothing but slendering cereal for breakfast, salad for lunch and tasteless fish with even more bland vegetables is quite frankly ridiculous. Men were not meant to live this way - men shouldn't live this way.

This is where I come in. That's right, I'm just another dude, granted a handsome and brilliant one, but nonetheless, just another dude going to work, playing Xbox and loving life. Why should we be subjected to making our lives miserable? I had a salad at work this afternoon, I nearly died. Why would we eat something so... horrible? I vowed there and then to put a stop to this madness - to find a way to lose weight and eat food I enjoy at the same time.

You are probably also just another dude, another dude whose wife / girlfriend is forcing you to diet with her. Well dudes, this is where you need to tell her "Bitch, go eat your salad an' pass me my waffle!"

That’s right, I said waffle! This diet, although mathematically sound lets you eat guy food. Hotdogs, hamburgers, mini pizzas, ice cream - it's all in here. The diet is based on a 1600 Calorie intake, as far as I understand the average male requires 2500 calories per day, this - quite frankly - delicious and filling diet will not only let you shed some pounds, it will also let you enjoy the things we all love, but no dietician will ever let you have.

Am I the world's most awesome dietician? Hell no. I'm just a dude, a dude like you. This diet is completely of my own design and mostly made up from my googling skills, combined with the will to find combos that fit the formula... and on that note ... let’s have a look at the formula.

As I said earlier, the diet is based on a 1600 Calorie intake diet - I read up on the Flat Belly Diet and noticed the reviewers referred to it as a 1600 Calorie diet. Said reviewers also mentioned that any 1600 Calorie diet would yield the same results - and thus the dude diet was born.

The dude diet consists of 4 meals per day, each adding up to around 400 calories. Considering you are this far into my post, I can safely assume you know that 400 x 4 = 1600. Is this set in stone? Well, not yet, maybe I'll break it up into 3 x 400 Cal meals with 2 x 200 cal snacks... we'll see.

I will post progress and recipes on this blog. The recipes will be the exact ones I eat daily, so if you want, have what I have, eat what I eat, see what I see.

Therefore dude, I welcome you! Enjoy the ride!
